Recently, there was a story on the news featuring a homeowner who reported a break in at her home in the Durham region while she was off in Florida enjoying the sun. The homeowner was possibly notified on her cell phone about some suspicious activity. Thanks to her security cameras, the homeowner was able to provide the police with the license plate number of a suspicious vehicle parked on her driveway. With this information the police was able to catch the suspect and allegedly even found items taken from the homeowner’s home.

BROOKLIN – Police say they’ve made an arrest after hearing from a witness who was 2,000 kilometres away from the scene of an alleged crime.
Durham regional police say they began investigating after a Toronto-area homeowner who is vacationing in Florida tipped them to a suspicious vehicle in her driveway.
Officers went to the Brooklin, Ont., home on Thursday morning after the woman — who was looking at her security cameras online — reported the suspicious vehicle and provided a full license plate number.
When police arrived at the home of the vehicle’s registered owner, they saw it pull into the driveway, then speed off.
Investigators say the officers were able to stop the vehicle a short distance away and allegedly found items taken from the woman’s home in the back.
A 25-year-old Whitby man is charged with break and enter, theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a controlled substance.
